Who We Are

October 1991, the Florida Brain Tumor Association (formally South Florida Brain Tumor Association) was founded due to a desperate need from brain tumor survivors, their families and friends. They were searching for support and a safe place to share their new life ever challenging experiences. Our goal was to provide this. The FBTA first support group meeting began at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, with a handful of people. The group quickly group grew to nearly one hundred attendees, one hour meetings which were free of charge and professionally facilitated.

Soon we were proud to offer support groups from coast to coast over the state of Florida. Sadly, the pandemic has halted all our in person meetings. We now offer ZOOM support groups, professionally facilitated, the 3rd Monday of the month, 7:30-8:15pm. Details are now on the home page.

In addition, the Florida Brain Tumor Association has hosted over twenty two day brain tumor conferences, attracting top neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, neuropsychologists from the most influential brain tumor centers in the world. Survivors, families and their friends attended to experience this life altering conference from all over the globe. We are hoping we will be able to return to these incredible meetings. There truly is nothing like learning, asking questions to experts in person, not to mention making new friends and sharing your journey.

The FBTA is a not-for-profit 501©(3) organization supported by contributions from individual corporations and foundations. We are the only organization of this kind, relying on the strength and dedication of our members, who are brain tumor survivors, family members and friends. Our Medical Advisory Board is also voluntary. We are very grateful for their gifts of time.
